Ok will pop over tomorrow afternoon to see you guys, no flying though as Cat is out and I' looking after my son.

    So progress piccys hey....

here ya go! could not be asked to make a rocker table for a one off so I let gravity and booze do the job
its 2x 6.5mm 3 ply Birch exterior grade as for weight??? don't know yet as there is probably at least 2 sq ft of waste to be cut off yet.
It currently has 3" of rocker as I figured that some would drop out, should be able to cut it out tomorrow and then start shaping the edges etc.

Looking good Rob. I guess that last bottle of water on the top will be the secret if it turns out to be a great board

    Water!!! Water!!!

Ill have you know that that is nothing but the best out of date Lemonade! (bit like the 8 cans of Pisch)

It feels at the mo as if it may be a bit flexi, but then again its currently 160 long and all the weight is dead centre, when while ridden the weight will be better distributed.
    We will see LOL

Well the blank is now cut but not shaped (rails etc) weight is now 4.4Kg before fittings - not too bad I dont think.
After removing it from the clamps and trimming rocker has dropped to 1 7/8" not bad considering I was aiming for 2"

Looking nice Rob. It could actually end up looking like a kitesurfing board if you paint it white and put some fancy stickers on it!!

Have just ordered some 50mm Bi-directional carbon tape as I think the boards is a bit flexi and I dont really fancy it possibly folding in on me about my feet under load, so I'll laminte this to the underside so that the carbon is held in tension that way any additional flex will need to stretch the carbon (aint gonna happen) and therfore greater stiffness will be restored, in theory also imroving the possibilty of POP LOL

This is sounding complicated. It might be a while before you put those kind of forces on the board but it pays to think ahead

No not really complicated, done it a number of times before when I was making Longboards, but do not have enough Carbon Kevlar cloth left fron those experiments so figured that I would oder 5m of carbon tape and run 3 lengths of it along the bottom of the deck.

    Its easy to do..

Incase you ever want to, this is how....

    1. Wet area with epoxy resin
    2. Apply cloth / tape to required surface
    3. Wet out the cloth with more resin using an old store card as a squeegy.
    4. Cover wet cloth with cling film and smooth out all air bubbles
    5. Leave to cure and remove Cling film for a smooth finish.

Is this some sort of stealth board? Undetectable by radar so that the errors of learning may go undetected ??

Sounds good, Fins packed up will post tomorrow. You'll need some stainless bolts and cup washers?, I have just the fins. Not sure of size so you may have to wait.

Also they're not that deep - 1 5/8" ~ 40mm? Still will be good for you in the shallows!!

Are you going to paint finish it? Actually a glassed carbon base and a varnished top would look quite cool.

    Have you seen these:

    http://www.racingfinish.co.uk/index2.html

Expect it to be finished like that!!

I was looking over the weekend how much it is all going to set me back and like the look of an 11m one of these:

    http://www.airjamexpress.com/images/SONIC_07_big.jpg

and a 144 one of these

    http://www.kiteforum.com/phpbb/files/buble_138_148.jpg

But may end up with an 06 Waroo or Sonic and a used board, we'll see....haven't bought many kites or windsurf kit this year so may just treat myself!

    Adam

The GK Sonic is supposed to be a nice kite. I plumped for a second hand 12m Waroo and it looks sweet. Absolutely huge when inflated compared to my 12m LEI so expecting interesting flights!!

I was looking at a 13m Instinct but it was too much then one went for £460 on eBay today.

Whatevr you get, if it's relatively new, it should be sweet
