Right then who's getting what?
Played anything you loved or hated recently?

Have a scan at frugal gaming if your after cheap new games or mega cheap oldies, they have gears of war 2 on there for £2.99 pre-owned last week!

I've kind of fallen out of love with gaming recently as there seems to be less and less new stuff and more and more shovel-ware and sequels churned out by seemingly the only 2 or 3 companies than make games anymore, MS, Ubisoft and EA.

Just got HAWX 2 from lovefilm and the 1 player is actually pretty decent, quite alot of variation and other than the nigh on impossible level 3 a decent difficulty curve. Shame the MP is such an abortion though, even more so when 2/3's of the achievements are for the MP portion.

I honestly think lovefilm at £10 a month for 4 games or dvd's has saved me at least £400 this year in games i would have bought from new and either been disappointed with or sold after 2 days!!

The only game i've bought in the last 12 months that i still own is Battlefield bad company 2 and it still gets regular time in the xbox. Just wish some of you guys were still on there and hadn't gone back to the twitch fest that is COD. (although i'll be getting the new cod in Nov for sure!)

Anyone feel the same with gaming these last few months?

Online gaming - How does it work then ?? (in laymans terms)....

I thought that this was easy to explain but when I tried I failed miserably :o
and when I'm trying to justify a new telly and a new gamestation or lappy it didn't go down that well:(

for me RPG was always a single player event on PS1 and PS2 and even on PC to a certain extent where a save was a bookmark of your personal achievement (or failure) in your own world and your own game AND even back in the heady days of pen and paper and the good ole days of dungeons and dragons being dungeon master was a fun role keeping things finely balanced and playing with mates in a darkened room all weekend

So....
Online gaming (MMORPG) - How does it work then ?? (in laymans terms)....

I can understand that there is usually a server involved that will host the game and you build a character (or aquire one somehow) and take it to this server and play....
presumably with others doing the same thing all over the world ??? (obviously you need a broadband/internet connection as well)

do you talk to each other all over the world as well - even when you just wasted them???

or form teams and groups and quest together with new people each time you log in or what??

what happens when you log out?? - does the game continue or evolve in your absence so that you come back online and everything is changed ??

OR is it that you have a party or group that remains at a similar level of play or what ??

I am thinking now for example of the likes of World Of Warcraft or Final Fantasy where you go off questing for a couple of days and then take a break. When you save and leave the game what happens ???

...and if you are out "questing" and meet the so often spoken of level 10billion wizard of death who just kills everyone for fun - do you lose the game and have to start over (or just from the last save point) and will the same guy just come back and cream you again ??? and again just for fun :rolleyes:

there it is .... any enlightenment would be useful of course since the dark nights are not far away and a long winter over here requires a long game or two

thanks in advance

F
