    Student Kitesurfing Nationals 2010!

The first ever Student Kitesurf Nationals comes to Calshot Beach on 20th & 21st March 2010 for 2 days of competition riding.

Hosted by Southampton University Kitesurf Club, and sponsored by King Of Watersports, Kamikaze, Flexifoil, Hooked On, Naish, Prolimit, Aquapac & Beach Break Live, the event is aimed at the cream of university kitesurfers. The format is pure freestyle with the emphasis on free; old school tricks are as welcome as super, kite low, s-bends!

Competition will be fierce as 52 competitors, together with spectators from 26 universities fight it out both on and off the water in the battle to secure the title for their university whilst event media partners ExPix capture all the action.

Judging will be done by a number of pro riders including Ali Barrett and James Boulding, with help from industry guru James Longmuir. Twice British kitesurf champion Lewis Crathern will be commentating and the Red Bull DJ in his beach tee-pee will keep the crowds entertained and satisfied with enough Red Bull to quench the thirst of a small army!

Competition prizes include a holiday from Hooked On, 2 top of the range 2010 wetsuits and sector 9 longboard from King of Watersports, Naish golf bag, Prolimit Harness, Aquapacs and Beach Break Live festival ticket.

Saturday night will see the host of the typical Student Kitesurfing Association (SKA) party at Southampton University Student Union Bar. ExPix will amuse the crowd with a display of images from the day’s action together with live up dates of the night time antics!

Special thanks go to the guys at Solent Sailboards and the BUCS student windsurf nationals organisers whose help has been invaluable in the preparations for this event.

This is the first I've heard of it, pity its such short notice and during Easter exams...

We invited all the uni clubs we could find and asked them all to invite any other uni guys they knew, sorry we missed you . Next year we're hoping to have a few tour stops so that we can expand and get more people involved. If you've got time definitely come down, should be a really good event

Yeah will do, I'm at Bournemouth and our club doesn't really exist! We keep meaning to do something about it...

Yeah, we did actually invite some guys from Bournemouth cause one of the guys on our club knew them, but I guess they didn't bother to try and tell anyone else in Bournemouth about the event!
If you wanted to come for the night out on Saturday I'm sure you can crash at mine, should have a spare sofa going. Drop me a pm if you do decide to come along

Hey Martiin, im also at Bomo uni on placement at the minute though. Yea i spoke with Ben Gillespie a while ago and he mentioned something about this. Me and a few other guys last year tried to get a windsurf / kitesurf club up and running "BU Windriders" but it never took off due to lack of interest I guess and the costs of lessons etc !? We ran a demo day down in Sandbanks but that was about it. Theres half a dozen of us that session everynow and then, there mainly windsurfers though and alot have graduated now! Its a shame the club never took off seeing as the beach is on our doorstep and id definitely be up for trying to get things going?!
Heading down to sandbanks for a sesh off the front / in the harbour as long as its not too busy this weekend if the forecast stays the same, drop me a message if your around...

Dont know where my first post went to!? Anyways dont worry antigrav i did spread the word around bomo uni after speaking with ben gillespie but theres was somewhat a lack of interest! Me and a few other guys did try and set up BU Windriders for windsurfers and kiters but it never took off, probs due to lack of interest again or the costs of learning!? Ive bumped into a few other guys at bomo uni randomly down at the beach and theres half a dozen of us that session every now and then in sandbanks but thats about it! If your in the area & fancy going for a sesh at the weekend martiin drop me a message!!

Just wanted to bump this thread back to the top, nice bit of wind tomorrow so the heats should be good!
The riding is kicking off at 1130, would be really nice to have people down there to support even if you don't know anyone competing

Yeah no worries Olli, hopefully as kiting grows as a sport more and more unis can setup clubs, it only makes stuff like this run better with more people on board

Antigrav, cheers for the offer mate. That's awesome but I'm just not going to be able to make this one. I've got a Math exam Monday and I need to put some serious hours in...

Olli, I am more than up for a sesh, but work is going to keep me tied down this weekend. I'll drop you a message, I would love to try get things going at BU. I'm 1st year product design and there are four of us who kite and windsurf. Two of us are instructors as well so maybe we will have some more luck with it 2nd time around?

We ran the whole competition today so that we had wind for the whole thing. It was AMAAAAAAAAAAZING!! Big thanks to everyone who came down/helped out/supported/rode for making the day so memorable. The organisation was top class, the riding was awesome and the crashes were hilarious

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO can't wait for next year

really good laugh judging, very nice watching you guys being rained on whilst we sat in a nice warm van

as for next year, me n ali were discussing a Plymouth event on our way home so there may be something there. and we all discussed getting the SKA up and running again so hopefully more uni's will be persuaded to put events on, even if their not full comps and only jams. we'll have to see how it goes over the next few months
