I was really considering setting the alarm for silly o'clock but looks like weather v.wet in morning and wind 25 - 30 mph , bit too breezy for me and I don't think even Pete would wanna play with a 15m Silver Arrow in that Gonna do some work at home next week, maybe try again later in week when tide at more sensible time

cambers the better in terms fo wind being clean and consistent and usually wind is more onshore at Camber

greatstone is usually best in an Easterly, so only at select times of the year, but the bonus is that the kitesurfers only go out if theyre hardcore and can handle the mile long walk upwind through the mud, so greatstone is usually empty as kite beaches get with huge lengths of golden sand and no LEi's littering the place

camber has a VERY BIG kitesurfing population, though that should be smaller as the pansies go home for the winter as the water gets cold, but if its blowing, it WILL be full of kitesurfers...however most of them are good at respecting the beach useage, and you do get the odd person downing their kite and leaving it on the main run of sand, but its bearable...

ok saturday is an ENE, get your arse to greatstone, it should be empty-ish as its not blowing enough for the kitesurfers to warrant a long walk through the mud, and itll be fairly empty, i would come over but the train only goes to Rye...and nobody comes from this way so i cant nab a lift

but greatstone, quiter, more sand though the condition of sand varies from hard to soft stuff but at this time should be nice hard packed strip of sand.

erm, theres a few car parks all over the seafront at Greatstone

best ones are the middle one, and the one up the north end of the beach
middle one is free, but has VERY limited space, and not idela if you have a trailer

north end one is huge, pay and display although not too expensive, ideal for trailers, very rarely any more than a few cars, and the beach is quiter up this end...the middle car park is where most of the kiters aim for, sand is invariably better on most occasions here

the google map picture below is deceptive in terms of what the sand looks like, the north car park(top one) has more sand on the beach, although nearly all of it is soft, there is a strip of sand that runs the whole length of greatstone beach which is compacted, and is widest at the middle car park

North car park: Top one, opposite the Jolly Fisherman pub, pub circled in blue

Middle car park: at the bottom of the image, opposite a caravan park entrance i believe, and a small restaurant pub thing

Hey Steve, Good to meet you and the mrs. Congratz on beating my PB of 38.4mph (which I've had for 12 years) within minutes of handing over the GPS to you.
That's the last time I'm lending it out Judging by the way you were riding, you obviously have no fear.

The wind got even more mental later, so Glen and I stayed on til' after dark.
Got the Gin Tonkawa 4.1 out and thought **** it! If you can handle the 4m Blade then I'll give it a go. No risk no reward.
I got a new PB of 42.2 in total darkness! and Glen with 38mph
    Epic weekend at Greatstone.

    See you out there mate.

    Tom

Ive been itching to fly on the south coast for ages now. Brought a 9m frenzy fx 08 when i lived in cornwall it was great, but in london its bit crap. Greatstone this sunday-tuesday looks great right? 15mph Easterly winds are perfect...right?!

Obviosly i will need to look up the tide times too i presume...

Tides high at 1235 tomorrow (sunday 3rd), ill aiming to be there at 830, look out for a big orange kite, and a fella who is being dragged ungracefully along the sand!!

This will be my first time at greatstone, i am guessing that kiting is not possible anywhere at high tide.

Hi there Adam, tide goes out pretty quick at G/stone, so you don't have long to wait after the high tide if you just want to have a static fly, though tide is quite high up beach at the moment at nearly 8m. If you get there early enough ie 4am you could get 5 hours riding in. Depending how beach washes off tonight, hopefully the ripples will get ironed out and we'll have a nice wide run to play with, otherwise prepare for a bone shaking session. Get your xmas scarf and gloves on too, 13mph to 16mph NE winds and snow showers

Hi Parksy, (was it otherwise steve?). Cheers for your help today, nice little community down there. As for my love of kiteboarding, i think it has been re-kindled! Ive battled with my frenzy for weeks with inland winds, Greatstone was great. i dont care what some of those guys were saying, thats not gusty wind down there!!
Journey back went in a flash, ill try and get a few more trips in, im off to Canada for a few months so ill make the most of my time here!

If you make it down again drop me a message.
