[QUOTE]i think, as far as i know, it has something to do with being attatched to the buggy when you jump. whereas when a landboarder jumps he can kick the board off his feet at any time. which is just like a static flyer getting abit of air.[QUOTE]

..always found this a bit of a puzzle ..if your 15ft in the air and kick your board off, there are then double the airborne hazards

Cheers Paul... yep thats right we're to set up south of the end of the barrier... not to land or launch infront of the car park.
The guy i spoke to was on a big kite (i was on 12mtr LEI)...nearly killed himself.... i seemed to be the only one to go over to him... The only reason i asked was because i aint sure of the rules for you guys and maybe it should have been someone else to go and tell him???

    Thanks for the reply

    Hi Guys,

i'm hoping to start coming down to ainsdale once I have a permit sorted. I rang the number given about 8 times on Sunday with no reply - is it difficult to get ahold of the rangers?

    Thanks,
    J

Try and phone during the day on a weekday, I'm sure the rangers will be out and about more at weekends and so less likely to be answering the phones.

Just to check, have you've got some insurance to show them? They will require it.

    See you on the beach

    ok guys advice time!

There seems to be a few arcs out there for sale, 18m, 15m + 11m Guerilla's, 18m phantom, 13m Venom.

So what should I get? - I want something with a decent wind range, that doesn't bite too much but with a decent scope for me to be able to get some air (when I am good enough!) I would like something that I could use in a buggy as well.

Also what other equipment should I get like body armour and things like that??

    Cheers chappies

How much do you want to spend and what wind range do you want to cover?

Don't you wear body armour in your race bug Jon? At your kinds of speed I would have thought it would be almost lethal not to?

    I reccon I will have about £200-250

No racers wear any body armour, if we come out (and it doesn't happen that often) then it is our heads, shoulders and ribs that get damaged. Dunno why it is just not something that racers worry or even think about. Most racers are well and truly locked into their buggies. The buggies will not usually lift off the ground even if the pilot does as they are too heavy!!

I would suggest a pair of knee pads with your helmet as a minimum, I also wear crash shorts and a Upper body suit with spine protector. All mine is scrub stuff, seemed to be the best protection available for the money when I looked.

Kite wise I guess you're looking at just one kite? At that money I don't think you'll find a venom, so look for a phantom or guerilla 1 or 2. Phantom will give more lift and fly through the air quicker, guerilla will give a bit more grunt. You won't go wrong with either.

At your size I reckon 12, 13 or 15 would be OK sizes to look for

Had most all the arcs but the Venom outshines 'em all - only other cool dude was a wonderful Phantom 12 I used to own. G's especially the 1's are a bit slow for my liking and Bombas although mean and great grunt engines don't lift much. V's turn quick, lift great and will do you when you eventually turn Flipper.

A V13 (1 or 2) is a great machine. Go out in the low 20s and you'll 'av a grin as big as the beach.
For my thrills I turn to the little V10 - one of those 'never sell' dudes - there ain't no better kite in a 35+ breeze on a lboard or wboard.

    You've prob got some tuff stuff but to save your skin get real good knee pads and I'd look out for some Dainese armour like this;

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Dainese-Body-A...QQcmdZViewItem

cheap as chips at the mo (think RRP is near £150) and as I'm a cheeky bstard I think it just happens to be in your size Jon .

It's fantastic stuff gives you a bit of an super powers feeling - well it did me .

Course tis only me and my thoughts, and you'd best always blag a go on as many as you can before you shell out your pennies.

Cheers for the advice chaps - I can only really go for one kite, so I will keep looking and keep blaggin goes on anything that I can try out!

Bobby - thanks for the link - bid put in, I may need a bigger size though, I aint called big-jon for nowt

I am really looking for something I can fly from about 15-25+ mph, anything more than that and I would probably be in my buggy going for real speed! I am hoping to get my lightweight buggy soon as well, so I would want the Arc to use with that.

    Thanks again.

    You are right Dave.
Racers should use body armour but it's not considered "cool".
If i was ever to get back into racing i would get the best i could find.

    Obtaining a Permit

Best to call on a Wednesday, Thursday or Fri morning to arrange your permit - especially during the winter.

Should be easier when the Kite Shop opens next year.

    In hushed tones.

Does anybody else get a real good tingle when you hit the XC bookmark on a Wednesday evening and you see that onshore bucketful of green, yellow and orange painted all over the weekend.

You sad, sad, sad romantic fool.
Watch out for the real squeaky springs in those old 4-posters .
And remember to take some vid .

Carl dude - I've gone and bought another piece of ripstop and it's similar, very similar, in fact exactly the same as one of your's. In fact if we both had 'em up on the same day you couldn't see the Ainsdale sky. We'd suck the wind outta every other kite on the beach. Stack 'em and you'd never come down and it even makes Big Red look wee .

I deffo have a big kite fascination .

Yeah, was on MSN with Ben earlier and Sunday does look best for a nice wind. Saturday looks like it could go mental, or it could push thru early.

    MSN Friday night to arrange?
